Seriously considering DNFing this series because it genuinely reads like the author wanted a trilogy so they threw together a mishmash of arbitrary minor plot points and hoped that heaping a thick slop of circular angsty internal narration would hold it all together.

Samara MacLaren is a fantastic narrator and I am eating this up.

Reading any of Maggie's books leaves me convinced that she has the ability to measure the weight and size and shape of a person's soul, fully comprehend it, and then perfectly imitate it in art.

Kidan is so gloriously angry and violent and wrong

Sanderson's tone and pace are noticeably different from Jordan's, but in such a respectful and honestly refreshing way that I find myself excited to see where Sanderson takes what Jordan started. So many areas where Jordan meandered or was drawing out over the last few installments are being immediately addressed and set up for resolution and it's so nice to see.

2 hours into this audiobook and I am *still* only in the prologue and haven't read from the perspective of a single main character yet.
I'm somehow both impressed and tired.

I wanted to love this book so much more than I am. It has honestly been a struggle to make myself return to it. There's nothing particularly wrong with it, I think I'm just not connecting with the characters very much.
