Some people called this one a snooze fest but i'm enjoying it so far! The writing reminds me of Colson Whitehead's Sag Harbor & the examination of Black, upper middle class.

Girl..this book has gone off the walls crazy pants and it's only halfway through. Such a fun read.

This is a grueling book to read because of the precise way Treva Lindsey maps out the violence faced by Black women, girls, and transwomen. It is difficult not to find yourself growing numb while reading case after case of medical neglect, gross abuse of power, and continued indifference by the United States. As Lindsey aptly asks, who is at fault when the state declares there was no murder?

It's always very jarring to read accounts of Pakistan in the 1960-1970s as a golden era when there was the very real genocide of over 3 million Bangladeshis at the same time.

So far, I like that the author distinguishes between her biases and what the women she is interviewing are telling her.

Truly the wildest book I've read in 2021, the way Morgan Thomas weilds time and gender is admirable and hypnotizing. Reminds me of Helen Oyeyemi!
