Really, really interesting
Lots of journal entries from Goebbels.
It's notable when this book was published and the US political landscape at the time...

I finally resumed reading this after a 6 month hiatus
I must be in a very new state of mind because this isn't as entirely terrible as I remember.
Book vibes - fever dreams, decay, violence, lust, absurdity, density

"Colonel Aureliano Buendia released a sonorous belch which brought back the acidity of the soup to his palate and which was like a command from his organism to throw his blanket over his shoulders and go to the toilet."

This kind of writing reminds me of 'All The King's Men,' which I also didn't enjoy reading. I'm glad to be past the halfway point with this.

I am very strongly considering DNFing this, but I already made it 50% of the way through...
It's just so repetitive, and I feel like nothing actually progresses despite tons of births and deaths. It's just one long stretch of melancholy, all centered around being alone.

Imaginative but feels like a chronology of weird events told in a detached voice, as though the author himself wants to keep you 10 feet away.

Slowing burning candle... I can't say I really *like* this book at this point.
And the constant recycling of names detracts from my enjoyment of this even more

Lol I think I get the name of the book at this point...
This is giving 'Candide' mixed with 'The Master and Margarita' vibes

A very strange book...
Pedophilia and incest included
I'm wondering what role they play in the meaning of this book
Lots of mentions of the word 'Solitude'

Really trippy with a jumpy plot, sorta reminds me of The Master and Margarita

I still feel 'meh' on this.
I think it's due to the writing style, because the events are interesting enough that this *should* be an engrossing read, but it's just not.
Off the top of my head, I see big problems with pacing and info dumping. This is like reading a story and history lesson at the same time. The in-scene immersion is constantly interrupted.

I am still not warming up to the style of the book. It does a lot of telling instead of showing, with frequent trips down memory lane - about things which really don't matter in the big picture - not to mention a ton of world building that doesn't fit seamlessly into the narrative.
It's still easy for me to put down, and in fact, I have several times already.
I am not attached to any of the characters so far.

Slow beginning, not for a lack of interesting events, but there's something clinical and formal about the presentation of the world.
Also, the world-building information is a bit overwhelming from the start.
At page 40, this is still easy to put down.

Just started a new poll on preferred review formats, since I've been playing with a few different options for the past two years. What do you all prefer?

A quick read
I hope the ending is much more complicated than I can predict
I'm getting 'A Man Called Ove' vibes
