I started playing Silent Hill 2 again after many years and decided to look up recommend authors from people who like the game. Thomas Ligotti came up many times as a good choice. I had already known about Thomas Ligotti, but had not really given him a fair chance after finding some of his writing a little too bizarre. But here we go again.

Terry Goodkind has some fantastic ideas here, but I don't think the execution of them is on par with what I believe he's capable of. Nicci and Nathan's journey is a bit too fantastical in terms of the world Goodkind created so elegantly in the Sword of Truth. It's like he's just throwing ideas at the wall. It's definitely rushed. I know he can still write, because I read The Scribbly Man.

I love Robin Hobb, I do, but this is just dragging a little for me. I hate to say it, but I'm getting bored of reading about Fitz visiting the same two rooms over and over again. I get that the character's are rich and relatable, but I'd hoped for a little more adventure along the way...

Uggh... this is just too much for me. I can tolerate a lot of blood, guts, and grossness, but this is just too detailed. It's to the point where I'm spending more time cringing at every crack of spine, knife to the gut, ripping of intestines, and splattering of brain matter that I'm wondering where the story is. So we're supposed to root for the heroine's insatiable bloodlust, but denounce the villain's? What?
