So much fun. I do love a Caroline story and this also features the often overlooked Indian community in Regency London. Interesting without being heavy handed.

What a strange mixture this book is. We enter in media res, with no explanation as to how vampires are a thing or how the courts work etc. The hero has one of the most ludicrous names I’ve come across, Remington Pendergast, of all things and I’m really starting to lose my composure when it gets mentioned. I can feel a flip to the end coming on.

Edith is a big a ninny as Alice. Must run in the family.

After the last two books which were great fun we’re back to irritating. This business of Lionel being delirious and proposing is preposterous and annoying.

Wtf Ada Palmer, ‘competing to lick the meat sweet monthly drippings from his cunt’?! Hate read continuing. And her obsession with sex and gender. Really it’s depressing, everyone in this seems to be ruled by their hormones. I’m hoping that blood and fire will follow shortly.

Not sure about this. Why use 1 word when 15 will do? And the gender treatment is annoying me, might have been radical for 2017 but now just refer to them as they why don’t you, using gender for some or at whim is just irritating. Ancillary Justice did it better.

Extremely similar to Bride of the Rat God so far

It is, as expected, like reading a 90s lad mag but enjoyable for all that. Not much nuance though.

Not the book’s fault, I’m really enjoying it. Just finding it hard to read and focus in lockdown 6.

I’ve had a mixed bag with the SFF selection but I’m glad of the chance to try books I wouldn’t necessarily have picked up. This one has interested me straight away so I’m optimistic!
