This is my first McEwen. The layers upon layers of hyperfocused academic and literary demi-mondes set against a background of total worldwide destruction is honestly making me smile so hard. We humans are so comedic and McEwan paints them so well. I’m treasuring this book.

Inspired by the excellent HBO series, I’m rereading this, this time in audio. Looks like gave this book only 4 stars in 2015 😂

This lecturer is the BEST history professor I’ve listened to so far from Great Courses. He makes the high Middle Ages relevant and fascinating. Definitely want to listen to all his work.

Loved it. Unique main character. Simple mystery unfolds.
