I understand that social media shaming (aka cancelling) isn’t ideal but what do we do to call out problematic behaviour?

Also the direct contrast in the book of her tweeting about sex dreams with an autistic man, with her trying to defend the one tweet she got called out from highlights how she doesn’t recognise her inherent problematic mindset from race to disability to any fucking thing

In fact, the book has done the opposite of what it was trying to do, and has made me think that despite her being “cancelled”, she still didn’t learn the problematic elements to her tweets. If her white tears are gunna make me feel for her, think again.

I am soooo put off. The privilege and white fragility is dripping from the pages. The author has a problem of inserting himself into the book, and presents topics as if its a thought process for the reader whilst telling the reader how they should feel. Therefore when its clear he doesn’t see the problematic elements in a racist tweet and claims people where purposefully looking for reasons to cancel the woman?Mad

I like how the sisters are drawing strength from their siblings actions even whilst they are apart

Talking about the legacy of witches, look at Shakespeare. His books are held up in lit with a lot of his popular plays mentioning witches. Without dismantling the view given across in the plays, it helps to subconsciously add to negative view of witches. Same with disney - but can u imagine the outrage at a princess who’s a “witch”. She can have powers but be a witch! Even look at wanda - causing destruction.

I know that for some, they will view the incompetent detective as just that, but to me she symbolises all the problems with the police. Her incompetence, and ease at convicting an innocent person is representative of the police as a whole. Furthermore, the class commentary is too much to even go into. I want mystery’s with more substance but this is really hitting a sore spot with all the social injustices

How am I supposed to have faith in the justice system in these circumstances? I think that maybe my life experiences, with people of a similar level as a maid, has made me take this book very personally. I can’t help but get mad, but also wonder what would have happened if Molly was black? What would’ve happened if Mr Preston’s daughter wasn’t a lawyer?

I’m confused by this book. The entire book is focused in the mystery and yet the reveal was wholly unsatisfying and rushed. Then as if remembering about the romance, theres the chapters at the end just added on, turning into a full romance, doing the work that they missed. Ive read mystery romances but this one just didn’t know how to get the balance right.

My girl is a diva. I understand that she should get mad at certain things, but the way she gets mad is giving prima donna.

Also, for as much as the MC wants to act non-judgemental, she loves to throw the fact that her love interest is an ex-felon around

There is casual drug use that I just don’t vibe with, but its okay for me because that is how some people view drugs. The title of this book has done it a huge disservice. Because I knew what it was going into it - a quick, campy amateur sleuth, I’m not wholly disappointed. But the cover and title really gives vibes of romance, and the romance in here is subpar

Erm certain issues. There is a such a lack of empathy around the loss of a colleague, and someone who is grieving her.

CHAPTER 19 - Nah she’s doing too much. She didn’t need to leave like that. They had one argument and she left, which isn’t good for any relationship. Also, he has a point in trying to integrate new ideas slowly. Tunnel vision - that was her issue
