The Modern Venus is a wonderful addition to historic costume scholarship. Elisabeth does a wonderful job explaining the satirical prints, pointing out multiple details that I wouldn't have picked up on right away. I'm now convinced satire needs to be woven into education curriculum because a lot can be learned.

I finished the 2nd chapter in cork rumps and bums, which are heavily portrayed in graphic satires, but only 2 physical rumps are in collections. Very interesting and a great example of how satire can be used to interpret fashion trends.

There were a few things about this book that stood out to me. The most prominent being that women and how they dressed were constantly under attack by men, leaving me the conclusion that little has changed in America stretching all the way back to before it was a country. Overall and interesting read.

Highly recommend. Great audiobook.
