The mention of “we don’t even allow any trade from other counties in the ports” makes me wonder once again HOW DOES THIS COUNTRY SURVIVE living under a total blockade??

Of all the nonsensical shoddy world building in this series, I’ve found the thing that bothers me the most: the archives are filled with some kind of death magic every night to “protect the books.” As a former library professional, I find this to be incredibly stupid and irritating every time they mention it.

A lot of this world building is silly or downright nonsensical. But I’m choosing to ignore it in favor of fun.

Something that is bothering me: it’s repeatedly stated that there are only 2 empaths in the city of Seattle. With that kind of occurrence rate, you’d be looking at less than 2,000 empaths in the United States, total. And yet there’s an entire industry devoted to studying and controlling them, and they’re all over the news all the time, it MAKES NO SENSE. Confounds me!
