I started to skip through a bunch of the book, thinking it was an introduction better left read at the end, until I eventually realized the truth. :/

Treaty of Falaise - Henry II kept troops stationed in southern Scotland castles at the Scottish king's expense since they would not stop trying to take land from England. Richard the Lionheart ended this shortly after by essentially selling Scotland back to its king.
