I'm finding it kind of depressing though Ann Patchett's writing is lovely.

love the writing at the sentence level but got a little bored with the setup of Fat Charlie having a job he doesn't like and a girlfriend who might be with him because her mother hates him. I was like, just go tell the spider you want to see your brother already and let's get this story going.
