I have a much harder time getting into Martha Wells' fantasy books than I ever did with any of the Murderbot stories :(

This is amazingly mind boggling! Every time I think I've got the *full* story figured out, there's a new twist! Each time I think I've figured out where the new twist leads, there's another switchback! As soon as I decide where my sympathy lies, the tables are turned!

* This book doesn't really work as an audiobook, at least not with this particular narrator.
* This book isn't old enough for 62 years of age to be considered old.

If the only reason someone isn't cruel to you, is because you're essential to them and their needs, they're not a nice person.

"Don't put anything unnecessary into yourself. No poisons or chemicals, no fumes or smoke or alcohol, no sharp objects, no inessential needles – drug or tattoo – and … no inessential penises, either.” - truly wise words to live by.

At the moment, I can only think of one other thing that maddens me as much as "because you're a woman" being given as the reason one is to be excluded from something. Trummel is on the 💩 list.

Page 245 - 247 are the best pages so far of this book!

Also, I loathe Sydney Atherton and wish him no happy ending.

No offense, but... I'm not as thrilled by this as I had been "promised" that I would be, nor as thrilled as previous experiences with Leigh Bardugo had led me to expect to be 🙈

Life's too short not to DNF, and yet... and yet. Why don't I DNF already?

Despite loving the first book, it took me a while to get back into The Broken Earth trilogy, but once I did, I've listened virtually non-stop to book two and now three.

"I never much cottoned to Wendell. He was queer as a three-dollar bill. But friendly enough, in a neighborly way. Not all faggy about it. Could pass for normal." Yeah, probably not gonna like this one much either.

In That Quiet Night by Mike Carey (M. R. Carey?) was both beautiful and intriguing and so far the best of this anthology 🥰

I just finished what is, so far, the , the worst short story in this collection. Possibly surprisingl, it's by one of the authors for The Walking Dead. Fetischising, repetitive and predictable, its one dubious positive would be the gore at the end. And I say dubious since it didn't even add anything to the story.

A balding vampire with (literally) unnatural sex appeal and a roughneck werewolf tries to save a smalltown diner from an unexpected occultist's diabolical plan. What's not to love?

I'm head over heels for Wayne and I'm crushing on Milan and RenetxWayne. Wax is tremendous and Brandon Sanderson is Harmony.

I finally got around to writing a review, and this was a review I had to struggle with, and Goodreads decide to suffer a malfunction and, presto!, my review is no more. 🤬

I began in the wrong end and read Jodi Taylor's The Very First Damned Time before this. They're similar to the point of comparison and so far I think I enjoyed Jodi Taylor's story better.
Not to say that I'm not enjoying this too, but I feel like it lacks a bit when it comes to the plot.
