Really hoping this book picks up. Very slow so far.

The story of a young man raised on the streets of Harlem is timeless save for some of the language. However, I like the progression of the writer's style as he transitions to manhood. I would be remiss if I didn't mention my disappointment with the depiction of black women as b*tches and wh*res. I'll reserve further comment until I finish the book.

Like the movie, difficult to follow at first, but intriguing enough to keep the reader engaged. Any woman who has ever struggled with the loss of identity as a mother will relate to the story.

Denial is a terrible state to live in.

I tried to plow through this book but it was just too dense.

Should I be concerned that the rumblings of a junkie make absolute sense to me?

I will do my best not to be too obnoxious after I finish this book. So far I have had to check to ensure the writer wasn't someone I know. This will be a must read for my children.
