You know when you get to a point in a book and it becomes abundantly clear that it was written by a man? (Not necessarily "Bad!" but a bit weird? I don't think any woman at any time would feel the need to justify feeling scared while walking past a man at night - especially not in her diary?)

Litt overrasket over stilen på denne, basert på tittelen forventet jeg ikke kebabnorsk for å være ærlig. Noen fantastiske linjer innimellom som forklarer litt av hypen, men fortsatt ganske krevende å lese. Hjelper å tenke på boka som en slags diktsamling.

okay so i think i totally misunderstood what this book was gonna be like. i mean, i have a history degree so i have an idea of what 1600s norway was like, but for some reason i assumed this would be a historical fantasy when i saw "witches", but nope, no magic! just extreme amounts of xenophobia and killing sámi for not being christians

"We're getting close to Trøndheim, let's have a look at these pretty mountains in Christiansfjord*"

*Which I had never heard of so I googled it and turns out it's a colonizer name for a place in GREENLAND. But I mean who cares, right, basically the same

I think I would’ve enjoyed this a lot more if it had been proofread by someone who speaks Norwegian…

Also would’ve loved a teeny tiny bit more research about the names of places

Jeg er generelt sett veldig for å finne norske/skandinaviske versjoner av importord, men jeg klarer ikke å ta "bebi" seriøst. Sorry, men det går bare ikke.

We sure jumped right into the horrible trauma. The writing is excellent so far, but I suspect this reading experience will be filled with great amounts of rage and nausea.

i’m sorry but every single time she quotes someone to explain girls’ attraction to other girls (often as a childhood “narcissism”) it’s the gayest thing i’ve ever heard and it just sounds repressed as fuck

The writing is genius bc at first sight Zenia is the villain, and sure, she's not a nice person, but she is also the most convenient person to attach all the anger the main characters have towards the men in their lives, but have nowhere to put and no clear way to articulate.
