Santa gave this book to one of my children for Christmas. He is so clever. I am really enjoying reading it. (I thought I had read it already, but it must have had one chapter included ,as a standalone in a compilation of ghost stories, because I find I've only read chapter 4 The Witch's Headstone.)

The latest book to read to the boys. So far, as predicted, Kiki the parrot and her sound effects are a hit, causing uncontrolled giggling. It's lovely to read this to them, as I enjoyed it so much as a child, but also because it has a book plate in the front showing that my mother won it as an award at school when she was 10 years old in 1947. They don't seem to mind the outdated language.

Had a nice little reading stint with this yesterday. Scott read aloud to me on our date at Peninsula Hot Springs. Mostly in the spa pool that overlooks the duck lake. Very pleasant. But the foreshadowing has had me on edge. And now we've finally come to the gruesome bit....
