Chapter 2. I’d be so freaked out, but the way she is so jealous it makes me wonder if she knew how to actually save her.

Jealousy is way too close to hatred. I wonder if Athena ever picked up on the jealousy.

The last essay was like a breath of fresh air. You can do anything you choose to do, and I believe in willing things into existence. The author talked about how she did that with her book deal and I believe her publisher. The power of the mind and sheer willpower is amazing.

I like the character Buck. He shares some of the views I have when it comes to Christianity and how the religion itself has enslaved the kinds of may for hundreds of year and continuing.

Darnell’s hesitance to soak to quakes about religion is very telling. I can relate to that because I don’t consider myself Christian but I also don’t want to offend others.

Really good story so far.

“I feel like I been navigating the world with my vision obscured. Trying to keep up with white people with a four hundred year head, plus when they cross the finish line they just keep dragging it with them. They call you lazy even though you work more than you sleep, they call you droid even though you engineered food from garbage, and they call you dangerous without acknowledging their hand in the matter.”

The first chapter is a really good introduction. I like the way Darnell describes characters, especially when he describes on of the band members looking like Tim Duncan swallowed Tim Duncan. Aside from that, the language is vivid. I like to read books aloud, creating accents and really putting myself into the book to fully build upon my imagination. This books seems like it’s going to be a good read!

Marc Lamont Hill’s essay was enjoyable. I like how he talked about breaking down the structure of why masculinity is expected to be and showing what it is, or what it can look like when nurtured.
