Really loving this until the *checks book* 28 page description of a woman flying an airplane over a volcano... hoping this is not indicative of the rest of the book

Her concept of God feels very abstract and impersonal (than what mine own is, but we are of different faiths), and she seems to separate this "creative force of Love" from God, which feels odd, but also provides some interesting perspective on how she portrayed the fight between evil and good in A Wrinkle in Time.

Curious to see whether the author will recognize her own inconsistencies about what is "real" feminism but she's avoided fleshing that out so far. This is meticulously researched though, so has been a fascinating, if not slight depressing, read.

This guy manages to be pompous and sincere at the same time. "I ordered authentic Evian water from France for my bread because the water in NE New York is too acidic." A few moments later: "wait hang on what am I doing to the environment if this is the key to my perfect loaf."

*next chapter* "Can you believe DaVinci put leavened dinner rolls in The Last Supper?? It was a Passover!!"

Good stuff tbh

Inside me are two wolves. One says, "finish the books on your 'Currently Reading' shelf." The other says, "unsuspend all your holds on Libby and just take turns reading chapters until a book sticks."

Adrian Tchaikovsky--the author who introduces you to a cornucopia of obscure vocabulary to communicate *just* the right idea, but also uses one word to the point of embarrassing his editor. Has used "reckon" at least 10 times in the back half of the book. That may be a conservative estimate because it is making me want to throw my phone each time I read that a character reckoned something.
