Am I crazy or is it kinda choppy? There's too many characters all at once and I can't keep track of who's who. Too many relationships in between them. I keep mixing names and getting confused.
Not off to a good start.

I don't think this is working for me.

Wanted to start something like this after reading a whole bunch of Harry Bosch books and binging all the seasons of Slow Horses.

It's fun. A bit too heavy on the action for me. And too heavy on the Jordan Peterson too like why am I having to encounter him in the books I read too now? Don't love that part at all.

This is surprisingly interesting

We are flying dangerously close to islamophobia and I don't like it.

I almost thought I was hallucinating when heard all the "I did this" "I did that"

All the books so far in this series have been written in third person (the superior choice) and this one is in first person. I do not like reading books that are written in first person -_-

But I'm gonna push through because I have faith in this author.

Is this Terry guy for real? He thinks because Harry has the same name as the dead doomsayer painter, he's supposed to be the killer? This book is turninf out to be such a let down. I don't like these characters. And I don't like that this man, who is supposed to be some hotshot FBI guy, is drawing such stupid conclusions with his whole chest. Utterly dumb!

He hasn't slept with the last 3 women that he's met, that's progress!

The narrator has a very unique style of narration where he likes to incorporate gulps and inhales into the narration, as a part of the characters' speech. The idea is nice but I hate the way is sounds. I'm having so much trouble concentrating on the story because of this.

The word right keeps popping up in this book several right so I finally decided to look up how many times it's been used and guess what, it's been used a little over 500 times in this one book. MORE THAN 500 TIMES!

The writing is fucking awful.

Why's he behaving like a horny 14 year old?!

There's a female character in this book whose last name is Roscoe. And every time the narrator says it, Lewis Hamilton's dog pops into my head. I keep picturing the dog instead of a woman. 😭

I am NOT liking this one.

People in recommendations on Reddit were likening it to Michael Connelly's Mickey Haller series but it really isn't. Like really.

I'm gonna stick it out for a little longer and see where it goes.

I CALLED IT IN BOOK 1

I'm so over her woe is me shtick.

She's mentioning being a sociopath one too many times. We get it babe, you're not normal. Move on to something else now.

The writing style feels so childish. It feels like it's the product of a teenagers idea of what adults are like.

A wife cannot defend her husband in court, it's a huge conflict of interest.

Also the writing style is that of an amateur 16 year old. I've read better written books on Wattpad.

I hope the culprit isn't Anne otherwise this would be too damn predictable. Surely the twist is something else since this book is so highly rated.

Lenora: "you didn't sleep well?"
Kit: "No"
Lenora: "the wind makes strange noises"
Kit: "hOw dO yOu kNoW i HeArD nOiSeS?"

GIRL. BFFR. The wind isn't exclusive to you, everyone hears and feels the same wind.
HOW DID THIS DUMB GIRL SURVIVE 12 YEARS IN HER JOB???

I've lost count of how many times Kit has talked about miserable and undesirable and unloved and unlucky she is. "No one loves me, no one likes me, my father doesn't talk to me" GO TO THERAPY GIRL, WE ALREADY KNOW THIS INFORMATION FROM THE 10 PREVIOUS TIMES YOU MENTIONED IT!!

If we just change the tone of this book, it could be read like a romance book too, the couple being Lenora and Kit. At least Kit is behaving like this is her own personal gothic romance novel. What an insufferable character!

The level of self obsession this FMC has needs to be studied.
Why does she think she's the main character in this new house? Why does everything happening in the house has to revolve around her?

Also, who tf names a house "Hope's End"????? That's insane! That's setting yourself up for failure right there.

My thoughts so far:

1. The author is using the word "plume" one too many times.

2. Kit is acting like a teenager with a crush around Lenora. Girl, are you scared or turned on?! Pick one!

3. Kit is also saying Lenora too damn many times.

4. Kit is quite annoying with her "woe is me" attitude. Nobody's out to hurt you girl, chill. You're your only and worst enemy right now.

The music after every podcast chapter is insanely annoying. Audiobooks shouldn't have music.

I know she's suspected of murder and that would fuck up a person but she is extra salty about every damn thing. Why the hell does she hate perfume? Hopefully this connects to something later in the book otherwise she's just a hater for no reason.

HOT DAMN IT GOT INTERESTING!

I predicted the major plot twist quite early on but the nuances are chilling. I'm not used to reading thrillers so it's making me a bit uncomfortable but I wanna know exactly how it ends.
