Polk’s conviction, vision, and ability to accomplish his goals deemed best for the nation could possibly make him one of the best and most efficient Presidents in American history. Surely, he’ll be or has already been branded a racist and terrible demagogue. However, that’s fine... for those that truly appreciate history there’s more of his brilliance reserved for us.

It’s been rather more difficult to read than Coffman’s The Regulars. However, it’s still filled with many interesting anecdotes that apply to an Army officer today.
