Yeah. Yup. Yup

Shirley Jackson's use of language is the most exquisite jewel. And every character is perfectly awful in the most mundane ways; the worst, though, are banal in their cruelty and they're not the villains. Exquisite.

Sadly, this is my kind of etymology.

I imagine this would have been a very different experience had I not been thinking about the title the whole time.
