I'm about 2/3 if the way through, and I'm still trying to figure out how a civil servant who was "just able to afford" a run-down bungalow has managed to hire a crew to gut and remodel most of the house, build a mudroom, install a patio, redo the the siding, and redo the driveway in about 6 months.

I had high hopes, but I am really, really struggling to read this one.
