F: Another favorite house is this "Gothic" house in chicago. It has French Gothic architecture. It is a very cool house with a nice interior as well.

S: Three more houses I read about. The first one on 4211 North Hermitage avenue, owned by James S. McDonald. The next two started a new section called Early Hyde Park. Hyde parks oldest house was built in 1857. The third house is a cottage built around 1860.

A: So is the old Sulzer residence within the graceland cemetary now and they moved because they had to?

F: A house built in 1859 still stands today. This house was built before the civil war. Abe Lincoln was being groomed for presidancy. This is a favorite moment in my book just because of how old this house is.

F: This book includes the house where the great Chicago fire started in 1871. At 558 De Koven Street, originally 137 De Koven Street, stands a house where the lantern was knocked over by a cow.

A: Why was the John McCaffery home was moved to its now present location on 3558 South Artesian Avenue?

F: Favorite qoute, "They would josh me and refer to our house as 'the jail
' but we didn't mind. The house suited our tastes, and we hadcplenty of room in it". I like this qoute because first off I never heard someone use the word josh before to describe a joking way. Also they describe the house as a jail but I actually like the way the house looks on 1430 astor street.

S: Started a new section called On the Gold Coast. The first one the Potter Palmer Castle. Was one of the most eminent houses in Chicago. The William Boden house was built by one of the best architects in America in the 1870s. The last house owned by one of the rchest women in chicago.

S: I read about two new houses in this section. The Samuel M. Nickerson Mansion, is a very boring house on the outside but the inside is elegant. In 1919 a group of people bought the home and gave it to the American College of Surgeons who have been using it ever since. The second is a 4 story home. L. Hamilton McCormick owned this establishment. After his death his wife sold the mansion.

F: I have actually found my favorite mansion now. The architecture on this house is magnificent. The cyrus hall mccormick mansion is one of the most famous houses in chicago.

S: Three more houses have been discussed. The first one has a very unique interior. The current owner turned it into a private museum containing antiques, objects of art, curios, and rare furnishings. In 1918 the second house I read about turned into a charity center. The third house started a new section on homes on the Near North Side.

A: I wonder why presidents and other high ranking people chose to stay at this house and not anywhere else when visiting chicago?

F: I have found my favorite house so far. On 1801 Prairie Avenue stands a French Chateau stye house.

S- I learned about 3 new houses today. The first 2 are over 100 years old each. The third began a new part of the book, titled Old Prairie Avenue. Before this section began they explained it was a very wealthy area in Chicago.

A: How are these houses still contrust over 100 years later?

Summary The bears won in 1985. They did good enough to make the playoffs in 1986 but lost in the first round. Ditka never could find out what was wrong with the team and made early exits in the playoffs every year.

Summary It was the midst of the 1985 season and the bears looked as if they were not going to lose a game. The defense was only getting stronger and the offense looked good.

Summary- the bears found their QB in McMahon but him and Ditka shared a fued. They both respected each other but fought often.

Vocab Redundant- not or no longer needed or useful

Favorite qoute "I was big even when I was small", i find this qoute amusing because william perry, who said the quote, was a huge person. When he was younger he must have been huge compared to his classmates.

Ditka was named head coach of the chicago bears. He only controls the offense though as Buddy Ryan controls the defense. Ditka could say whatever he wanted about ryan but he could not fire him.

Ask I wonder why Halas never payed Mike Ditka what he was worth.

Summary Halas has retired after a long career. The roster was a mess going into 1969 where the franchise had it worst year in bears history going 1-13.

Ask How are football players able to play such a physically demanding sport for such a long time?
