in Ursula le Guins vein, but a focus on political economy, power, and leadership. this falls in a uniquely old school style of fantasy writing. there’s an almost Machiavelli framing but through Fitz, Chaid, and the Farseer royal family.

Affad Shaikh is on page 110 of 223 of Time in Early Modern Islam: Calendar, Ceremony, and Chronology in the Safavid, Mughal and Ottoman Empires
it’s a little difficult for me to understand why the hijri calendar system was difficult to use for agricultural economies. I’m not appreicating the nuances Blake presents and i feel i need to jump into more research. The ceremonial chapter for Ottoman, Saffavid, and Mughal years was a fascinating read.
