So far, reads like an incredible play... or like the blueprint for PT Anderson's Magnolia...

This book is batshit crazy. Approaching the final 140 page section, I can verify that the book's largest section, The Zone, is the Ornette Coleman of literature. Free Jazz abounds in style, kinda.

I'm ready for the climax...

It feels good to be a quarter into this book, this book which simultaneous inspired me to read most of Pyncon's book a decade ago AND made me afraid to get past the ~70pg mark, where I left it a decade ago now... so far, on this reading all I want to say is... "Fuck the war. I love this book."

There was a great scene in an airplane... other than this, I am having trouble shaking the consensus that this is Pynchon's worst book.. It isn't super exciting so far, except in brief moments... so maybe it is best I continue to read it sporadically.. overall, so far, this feels like a prototype for Against the Day, Inherent Vice & Bleeding Edge..

Very information dense... Making my way through the audiobook, pretty much the best "Introduction to Human History" course imaginable...

Things are getting pretty trippy man...

Past the halfway mark... another one of my favorite books ever, and virtually the exact opposite of the epic novel that precedes it. This book is a never ending, multi-threaded, multi-dimensional collection of characters, families, governments, conspiracies, technologies, fantasies, and science fiction realities.. a gift from the storyteller gods through the prism of T.P.'s encyclopedic and deeply human voice..

I'm totally back in... locked into my seat on the airship... this book rocks! High adventure, High concept, High art.... I'm already imagining how this book could one day become a mini-series, tv show, cartoon, etc. the story is so epic and fantastical, it would be great for this someday to get out to people other than the maniacs willing to take on a 1200 page book by a notoriously dense author...

After another couple nights of reading, I'm once again in LOVE with this book, wholeheartedly. The problem with any great author/artist/director/etc. is when you fall in love with one work or even a few, as a fan, you can become very close-minded when encountering a very different work. ~400pg deep, AtD is NOTHING like the book that preceded or the 2 that follow it, which is now why I can't wait to keep reading it.

300 pages in, AtD is is almost indescribable, mainly because it's basically a collection of anywhere from half dozen to dozen and a half short stories.. ongoing... with no sign of which of them will continue, ever be resolved or are just there to add a "flavor", whose purpose in the novel's larger context is already complete... more than M&D and what I've read of GR, this is equal parts disorienting and intriguing...
