so. so far the book is okay, but i’m having major issues with the way the cult leaders’ childhoods and home lives are portrayed. like ALL the responsibility is placed on the childhood and parents and VERY little on the adult men. like yeah its tragic, but also there are plenty of people with traumatic childhoods who DON’T become cult leaders

not to be a downer because I’m only ~20 pages in, but if something interesting doesn’t happen soon (or the world building doesn’t start making sense) then I’ll have to DNF yet another book in 2022
