I'm reading while listening to the Audible version & loving this story. The writing is superb. The narrator brings the smoky mountain dialects of the characters to life, which is tricky with both modern & historical storylines. Karen Barnett does a fantastic job giving her characters heart and soul, and strikes a perfectly paced ,slightly literary balance of mystery, romance, and history. Eager to see how it ends!

I just wanted to say the only reason it's taking me a while to read/finish this book is because I'm in Oregon surrounded by wildfires and we are in a state of readiness to evacuate at moment's notice, so it's a little hard to concentrate on reading, but... this is a fabulous book and Patti's writing is impeccable, my favorite kind. ;) Will press on and review this one soon, Lord willing!

omigaloshes, end in sight! I've read 18 books since the first of the year, am reading #19 now, and have 3 left on my very selective TBR, plus a reread of an old favorite JBJ title, plus a refresher of John Gardner's the Art of Fiction, then I think I'm done battling the TBR beast, at least for now. ! Then some contest judging, and THEN (finally) 200% back into writing The Secret Place (contemporary Romantic WomFic).

ok, sorry I'm late to the party, I'm just now catching up on this final book in the Bradford series and just had to say that the moment Britt began to describe Zander -- especially the 19th century poet/Twilight reference, I instantly saw Timothee Chalamet. Anyone else? And I'm not unhappy about this.

just finished reading my 13th book for the year, tackling at least part of my TBR pile before I resume writing the novel that has been set aside for other projects and waiting patiently to be finished. Have about a half dozen or so to go. Contemporary gen. market, contemporary Christian, historical Christian, and 2 more writing craft books to re-read. Next up: Katie Ganshert's No One Ever Asked.

re-reading it to brush up before resuming work on a shelved novel, and to prepare for teaching a writing workshop.
