Enquist beschrijft zeer realistisch het leven van een vrouw die moet wachten en volgen wat haar beroemde man doet. Dat is zeer saai en repetitief. Jammer dat de binnenwereld van Elizabeth Cook ook niet echt tot de verbeelding spreekt.

Wat dat betreft geeft deze roman zeker te denken, en vind ik het best ongemakkelijk om te zeggen: ik stop met het lezen hiervan, want het is zo saai.

Kortom, missie te goed geslaagd.

Dit boek heeft zulke levendige beschrijvingen van Shimokitazawa dat ik alleen maar alles op Google Maps wil opzoeken, heimwee heb naar Japan. Daarbovenop nog een geweldige band-aanbeveling (wel Brits). Genieten dit!

Nu de leestekens zijn teruggekeerd is het best een aardig verhaal aan het worden.
