I wish I was done with this book. I would recommend it to anyone to read. But it has been the most painful book I have ever read. I grieve for the characters, and have cried. It is a painful book, but I am glad I am reading it. I am looking forward to seeing how things wind up in the last one hundred pages. But my heart cannot take much more pain or heartache from this book.

Not the easiest book to read, rambling and sometimes incoherent. Good parts: Neil confirms what I think: digital music is downgrading music as a whole. Convenient: yes. Quality: hell no. My friends don't understand why I search for vinyl. They don't understand that digital files are smaller and leave out the quality of the music. Best thing about the book: Neil knows this too and is working on a solution!

Unfortunately, I enjoyed the first 20% of this which was the introduction by Douglas Brinkley and Johnny Depp more than the actual book so far. Brinkley and Depp have conveyed more of what Woody's message was better than how Woody has done so far. Learned so much just from the introduction. I knew that Guthrie was a champion for workers rights, did not know about how he tied housing materials to that cause.

Finally, the main character is beginning to realize why having the butterflies in her "backyard" is not such a good thing.

tried to explain to my student why water rights are becoming so important, and that if they were thinking about going into the law, that water rights would be a prime area...I couldn't make them see the urgency of the issue...

For years, I have told my students who wanted to go in to the law: I said go into Water rights: and this book explains why. For those of us who live in the South or Southwest who have not been affected: get ready: the water wars are coming.

I don't re-read books, even the ones I love, because there are too many books to read. But flipping channels, came across the movie and remembered how I loved this book and felt pulled to read it again. It will be worth the "re-read".

If I hadn't taken an extra job after school I could have finished this by now. Love it, wish I had the time I used to have to read. 10 minutes around 6:30am doesn't leave much time to read. However... the author has captured my attention. She describes Harold's physical and mental challenges brilliantly. I'm walking every step with Harold.

I don't know how this is going to end: sad, happy, or somewhere in between, but I was hooked from the first sentence.

This is a long book, lots of characters to keep track of, and lots of long descriptions of things I don't understand. But I do enjoy the author and reading things of this time period.
