i get that this is hundred years’ war, so clearly my lack of interest in it is indicative that i won’t like any other historical fiction about nonsense bloody battles

i’m skipping thru a lot, so if/when i finish this, it will be a very loose definition of “finish@

i guess cruelty of others is to be expected

reading this is stressing me out on the subject of character relationships and safety

however, as a comment on the book itself: historical accuracy

while the book seems accurate in some ways, it obviously and absolutely abandons it in others

i’m trying to accept the use of modern language and pretend it’s just a narrative interpretation of the “actual” language used at the time

also continuity errors

quite fun. i can see where the greater drama of modern regency romance books probably got inspired by georgette heyer.

i also love a good (several) tropes

good shit, good shit, still a slow burn

it’s interesting to be half way through a book and see exactly the point where a novella might have made its happy ending, and instead see the book make a turn for the “nope, drama is unresolved, this will be an even slower burn, have fun”

this is so good so far, delicious with angst and friendship and emotional tension

i’m not really liking this book but i keep reading it

classic emotional betrayal, repressed heartbreak and regret, diminished sense of self worth and righteous upset; the bog standard for this kind of novel, still hurts every time (and often at the 2/3 mark // 69% doesn’t always feel so nice) but don’t mind me, I’m loving it

queer romance in the edwardian era (or regency or victorian) is entirely my favorite genre, especially if it’s Magical

it’s why i love KJ Charles so much, and this is really good so far
