Waiting Room= another 5/5 stars. Same as Prince and Troll, this was like the ideal short story—absurd, incomplete, emotional, plot-driven.

The Prince and the Troll= 5/5 hell yeah. This is what I want in a short story. Just a little bit of absurdity and incomplete but intriguing worldbuilding and to be left feeling slightly unsettled at the end

Mixed Messages= 3.4/5 one of the better stories here, but hard to follow on audiobook and basically all dialogue so not much happens. It’s really just people talking which is fine but not much of a story

If the Fates Allow: hmmm… 3.5. Pretty good, for a Covid story

God penny is so awful and annoying. Was did I hate her this much when I first read these books? She and Simon were both bad in book one but Simon got better, but now we’re fully in book two and I want to push penny off a cliff I mean what I wouldn’t give for some scenes where she’s not there

why is ryle still in her lily’s life. why is she letting him around her kid. why is she still besties with someone who hangs out with her abuser? Girl. Get a restraining order and some new friends. The first book was more effective at making me empathize with Lily, which was the whole point—to understand that domestic violence situations are complicated and people make hard choices that seem bad from the outside

I’m losing my mind trying to figure out what’s real (or, realistic) and what’s an added dystopian element, which, IMHO, is a sign of a really dang good dystopian.

The types of surveillance, word-twisting, and hyper vigilant control is also really reminding me of US prisons.

Look, I’m a religion and English major who watches superhero tv shows and movies like my life depends on it. I love a good meta moment as much as the next one. But reading from the POV of the alien-virus-whatever that is Carl is too meta, even for me. Especially in a pandemic. I don’t want to think about what covid is thinking about.
