The little Robin Redbreast is my favourite character so far 🥹

Well, I was not expecting such a horrid child as the main character, although under the circumstances, I can understand why Mary is so contrary. Perhaps this secret garden old Ben speaks of will change her for the better…. (Also, I know it’s a sign of the times etc, but this is another classic kids book peppered with casual racism, surprise surprise 🙄)

Part II

At this point I don’t know why this has such a low rating on here, I’m really enjoying it! I hope it doesn’t let itself down in the second half 🤞🏻

What a bizarre scenario 😂 I like it.

“One of my childhood autumn sounds was to hear a big spider negotiating the ancient bedroom wallpaper where it had become loose on the uneven wall. September spiders now appear in the bath, and have to be carried to the garden by the glass and postcard method.”

Spiders again, mentioned by Ronald in his opening chapter of September. Both my monthly reading books mention the eight-legged little terrors! 🕷️

September - It is spider mating season, so we now see many larger spiders spinning webs to impress the opposite sex, as the males come out of hiding to seek a mate.

*shudders* windows closed well before dusk in this house!! Judging by the sheer amount of flies there’s been this summer, these creepy creatures are going to enormous! 😧🕷️🕸️

I am entranced by this and don’t quite know why.

‘There is nothing like puking with somebody to make you into old friends’. 😂 (Been there, albeit many moons ago!)

I’m just managing to snatch brief moments to read this week, and I am dying to get this finished tonight, it’s all so exciting now! I hope I get an hour later and I’m not too tired! I LOVE this book.

Those last couple of chapters were so exhausting! Jane, I’m with you all the way, love! 🤍

Things have come to a head! 😧

I love how Jane just sits quietly in a corner somewhere, ear-wigging people’s conversations and judging everyone based purely on the way they’re dressed or the wrinkles on their foreheads or the look in their eyes! 🤣
