This is the second book I’ve read this week with movie script outline in the middle of the book. What gives?

People may not behave like this in those first world civilised countries, but they definitely behave like this Appalachia! They will snatch a child off the porch if it’sbarefoot and dirty and looks poor.

Mikala is starting The Genetic Lottery: Why DNA Matters for Social Equality
Granted, starting a book with “this is not eugenics” is an awkward place to get reader by-in from.
Some of the best explanations of statistical values and (non-)importance that I’ve ever heard!

Mikala is starting Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis
It’s been quite a few years since this book came out, and a recent discussion with a college student prompted me to revisit this book and see if my opinions have changed

Restarted from the beginning. Weird that I started this almost exactly 3 years ago. Right before the world collapsed.

Mikala is starting Force: What It Means to Push and Pull, Slip and Grip, Start and Stop
Who is this book written for?! The physics-curious middle schooler? Science deniers? Lazy high-schooler looking for a quick science fair project about levers?
This is basically just top 10 lists of the places in everyday that exemplify common for huso al forces: fridge magnets, mag lev trains, forks as leavers, holding books, … you get the idea.

Feels a lot like poverty porn. It’s an intriguing, sad story told with a lot of emotion.

At this point, I will die remembering far more about FD’s life than my own!
In spite of the length, I found this book highly engaging.
It is well written and the audiobook narrator has a lovely tone.

Mikala is starting Rootabaga Stories
Much like I struggle to rank Picasso’s art over that of Kiki’s, it’s not clear how Sandburg and Dahl were lauded as storytellers instead of hauled off to insane asylums.
Don’t get me wrong, the story’s are delightful and fun and spur the imagination of children before they can be molded into Borgs of capitalism permanently.

I’m so glad I don’t read books like this or that books aren’t written with such a narrow focus as much nowadays.
There’s nothing about surrounding figures. Only the big names (old, white guys) you already know and only from a single night perspective.
There isn’t even any mention about what else might be going on in the world. This is what makes history so blah.
