Slow going. There is so much inner dialogue and rehashing of back story on familiar characters. Conversation between characters is greatly lacking, especially the main characters. If this weren’t Ilona Andrews, I would have quit already.

Iris has a strong bias against vampires, even though we are informed of their history of persecution by humans. She is very rude to the Calix, to the point of prejudice. My image of her is like some missionary who loathes the people very she helps.

The male POV portions are irritating. Speaking of women in an objectifying way and as the main way is not attractive. It doesn't make me root for the guy. But at this point that inner dialogue is all that we are offered.

Still boring. Still not sold on MCs.

Boring so far. Henry is obnoxious, but I don't hate her yet. Dunford doesn't seem very bright in this chapter.
