Some good yarns, but not dark enough to make your hair stand on end!

A mammoth listen which was challenging at times for me, not being from a scientific background. But the narrator was excellent, easy to listen to and made the subject very approachable and applicable to a general reader.

Exquisite descriptive writing. I only knew the minimal subject matter: the painting, but there was more to the story than I thought.

Heartbreaking. How a woman could survive, and emerge from, a background like this, makes difficult reading at times.

Unfortunately I’m leaving this book for now, as it is too slow for me. After reading some reviews, I’ve decided I need to read the previous books in the series….I didn’t realise when I started it, that it was the final in a series. Not a good place to start! I’m hoping I will pick it up at a later date when I have familiarised myself with the preceding stories.

I enjoyed the story of families negotiating the blend of traditional American native knowledge and spiritualism, and contemporary social issues., with the underlying thread of an intense tragedy. Each character was easy to visualise. This book held my interest right to the end.

I was enjoying a well written story about a Chinese girl in America, and her efforts to adapt to the differences in culture, lifestyle and socioeconomics.
Then was taken by surprise several times by the dramatic twists in the latter part of the book.

Enjoyable easy read but seems to leave a few things unresolved.

Listened to the audiobook with the wonderful Colin Firth reading it.

It makes you give some thought to human nature, and compassion, or the lack of.

I got a little confused with time frames and family members in the depths of the book but I still found it fascinating and immensely sad how the tragic events so long ago affected Ben's family.

The Goodreads average of 3.6 fits. A reasonably good whodunit with some flaws but an easy read. Would make a good British tv drama.

I started listening to this book thinking it was going to be largely about Princess Margaret and the royal family, but found that it was also a very interesting insight into the wealthy families of Britain and the tragedies their lavish lifestyles brought. The book was read by the author which added to the appeal.

Not a good idea for me - second 800 page book this year! Enjoying it but daunting......

Need to do less knitting and Scrabble and more reading......
