Horne's books are densely packed with nuggets of interconnecting histories that yield provacative insights on the geopolitics that led to America's racial fantasies and multiple genocide(s). He also traces the development and evolution of race as an idea and white supremacy as an ideology them backwards to their origins in capitalism, colonialism, militarism, and westen Europe's fear of invasion by the Turks.

The book is written in Melville's typical verbose and excrutiatinngly long sentences. But, it is also an intriguing mystery wrapped in adventure andbased on a true event. The obtuse writing style functioned to accenttuate the big reveal at the end-which I really appreciated. All along, you know something is not quote right. But who? What? Is the narrator deliberately leading you astray? Read it and find out.
