I love the writing. Nuanced. A bit old-fashioned (proper). Intriguing story so far….

Charming, like all the books in this series — if you can overlook some non-PC bits and consider the context in which they were written. The hardships the settlers faced put modern-day middle-class struggles into perspective. Although the characters in this and other Wilder stories suffer extreme deprivation and frequent weather-related worries, their fortitude and family bonds get them through.

Hilarious and at times poignant, as ever with this writer. The dad with his put-down "encouragements" .... the mom with the cigarette ashes in her wake....the encounters with dental practitioners in France....

Can't put it down. A simply told, well researched story of one family's struggle with what is finally being recognized as a not-that-uncommon issue. The book will increase any reader's understanding of the many challenges facing families and individuals with transgender issues.

A bit self-consciously written, maybe... intriguing so far but the writing's a little stilted. Hmmm... Nora and a dollhouse... where have I heard of that before...

So far, I love it; typical AMcS witticisms and informative, provocative asides. Several typos in this edition, though .... Disturbing in any but especially one of his books, he's such a stickler for correct grammar and spelling.
