Intro is a little slow but it gets better. There is a lot of weapons misinformation. Like a lot of modern authors of westerns, Mr. Roberts is enamored with the Colt Walker.

Well written, bleak story of Mexico, Texas, their border, drugs, corruption and evil. Not a place a sensible person would want to be. So far no good guys at all.

Well written. Well developed characters. I just don't happen to like them.

Just finished chapter one. Boring, redundant and unnecessary. Unless the reader is a complete neotype to soldering and military history, he doesn't need to be told at length that such things as training, logistics, morale and leadership are important.

Game warden shot. Left in a frozen wasteland. Saved by a cow. Bobcat in a dishwasher. And that's just the beginning.

How many times does he have to describe chairs as "sinfully comfortable"? Or describe characters as being able or unable to count to ten or eleven with their boots on?

A sore disappointment. Actually boring. If this were television instead of a book, I would say that it's full of talking heads.

A sort of Romeo and Juliet on the river with rivalry between two families of steamboat companies. All is complicated by plague.

About 1/3 through. I find this very slow going. Bars/pubs in Ireland must be VERY different if he sold this stuff there. Go to a bar in Mississippi and try it. Don't think he would get very favorable responses. Of course I'm not sure as I haven't spent much time in bars since my early law enforcement work.

Now into the week preceding Easter which, of course, ends with Easter itself.

If considering this book, take into account that the pieces were written by Lewis but were assembled into this collection by an editor.

Finished the first story, Dracula's Guest by Bram Stoker. Very good.

Most of the negative reviews on Amazon seem to be pretty accurate. Not sure I'm going to finish this one.

AN UNPROVEN CONCEPT is by a proven author and, so far, this is one of his good ones.

In this one Stiger first meets one face of the ancient evil which threatens the world and which figures so prominently In the other two story lines of these tales.

So far, another great Marc Edelheit novel. The Kindle edition does read better if you start with page one instead of accidentally touching a later chapter while attempting to scroll past the table of contents.

The trick of almost instantly multiplying any 2 digit number by 11 is revealed in the sample. That alone makes it worth reading. Any who use math regularly or who have children in school should at least peruse the sample available from Amazon.

So far very predictable. Surely some plot twists lie ahead.

Well written and as interesting as his other work in the Shattered Nation series. However, on the slavery issue it almost seems that his sole research was reading Uncle Tom's Cabin.

Fine Nero Wolfe novel with what is, so far, a complicated mystery.
