ok so… i was enjoying this book because i think the writing is pretty clever and colorful, sort of meandering in a way that reminds me of someone’s internal train of thought as they skip from one thought to another without any real discretion or purpose BUT… [to be continued]

sometimes u have to give up

at 1st i was totally enamored w this book. gorgeously simple premise & i loved the writing… i keep saving clever little phrases.

but the wasian mc & the Black side character’s discussions about race feel… stale & uninteresting. can no one write about race in fiction anymore without it feeling super pointed/transparent?? it’s the iphone face version of books. like this book has been on twitter. open mind tho
