I’m very intrigued so far. Why can’t anyone remember anything? Also, bold choice to name a character after Axl Rose.

Robin Marwick is starting First Season / Bride To Be
I’m reading BRIDE TO BE; FIRST SEASON has been so roundly panned that I’m skipping it. Some of JA’s earlier stuff (of which this is one) can be disappointing in terms of character, plot, and theme, especially if you started with her later work, though the language and setting are always reliable. So far I’m really enjoying this one!

Happy 2019! I have 2 book-related resolutions: read 2 books a month from my TBR pile (1 personal, 1 professional) and get back to recording my reading on Goodreads. Wish me luck!

Really feeling for Elizabeth Bisland right now. She woke up on November 14, 1889 just like any other day, then was summoned to her boss's office and told she had to set off on a round-the-world trip that evening.

So enjoying this. Hardly any changes needed to modernize it. I think the best (most loathsome) character is John Thorpe - total City oik.

Not sure about this. In theory I should live it but it's hitting perilously close to my embarrassment squick threshold.

Delightful slapstick best not taken too seriously. If I think of it as the Regency equivalent of Ye Olde, the nitpicky part of my brain is able to settle down and enjoy.

Robin Marwick is reading The Osiris Ritual (Newbury and Hobbes, #2)
Not sure I'm going to bother finishing this one. It should be gripping but it's awfully full of unnecessary description and people not asking sensible questions (like "what the heck is the connection between these two people anyway?").

I love Connie Willis, but I am finding her typical pattern of missed connections and nobody ever being allowed to finish a conversation or a thought without being derailed a bit of a strain, especially when spread over 2 books.

Considerably further along (it has to go back before the library opens tomorrow) and unreassured as to dog's fate.

I do like these books, but I find the language a bit off. Cadence is good, vocab seems wrong. I just don't think of "yelled" and "hollered" and "darn" (as an expletive) as Britishisms.

Robin Marwick is reading The Far Traveler: Voyages of a Viking Woman
Fascinated by the weaving bits! And I got to the bit where a Viking woman was thought to have walked 23 miles/day while weaving and just felt tired.
