It's more of a love story than a story about a rise to power. It's good but not a lot has happened.

I love it so far. I haven't read a Juliet Marillier book in a long while. This has been on my TBR list about as long!

I'm reading this so slowly lol but it's so good!

Astrid's side plot with the brothel is so out of place plot wise in-between the Lito, Luce, and Hiro chapter's.

Hiro's voice actor in the audiobook is so nasaly and grating to the ear. Doesn't suit the character at all.

I dig this so far. Interesting premise.

This is a bit... boring.

I'm picking this up again. I lost interest for a little while.

I enjoyed King of Harps, but I feel like I am just slogging through this series. Including the antagonist suddenly, as a point of view character, ruined the suspense in Brocc's chapter because we already knew the stranger on the road meant him harm. Alou's chapter just rehashed the story Liobhan just was told of the crow folk. We're not uncovering the mystery organically as we read; we're being spoon-fed exposition.

Brocc is the weakest character in this whole series in regards to writing. He's so gullible and slow on the uptake. Why would you trust some bish you met on the road to take care of your child? You're so road weary you let them do as they please and don't hear them take her in the night? It's like trusting Eirne implicitly in The Harp of Kings. Look how that turned out for you, dude.

Brocc never, ever stands up for himself against Eirne. It's infuriating! He sacrificed so much for this dumb bish, and she spit it all back in his face. Eirne coerced him into staying in her realm and tried to sever his bond with Liobhan; in no way respects or sees him as an equal. Does she even truly love him? She doesn't even love their daughter. She's a snake that used him for his gift.

Why have Brocc give away his singing voice just to have a time jump? Eirne was furious that he'd put them into danger by doing so. Narrativeltly, it had no impact. A dramatic decision and reaction for nothing.

They changed Dau's voice back to the voice actor from The Harp of Kings. The new actor in A Dance with Fate suited the character much better. I'm bummed.

Good grief, this is boring. Who wants to read 10+ pages of court proceedings? Liobhan should've stabbed Seanan in their fight. That would have been a more fitting end. The last hundred pages completely ruined the book.
