Almost halfway through and a little bored. Tempted to DNF it,

A story of friendship and hardship and gaming over decades that I hoped would draw me in (because of others’ reviews) … but mainly I thought it dragged. Wanted to give up on it several times but did not for same reason. 2.5

A parallel universe where mothers’ mistakes and shortcomings are held against them to the nth degree. The punishment far outreaches the crime. The “bad” mothers are forced into a sort of Running Man meets Hunger Games meets Handmaid’s Tale atonement competition that no one can win. I was devastated by what protagonist mom Frida,had to endure, the feelings she had to suppress. This book is a mind fuck.
