Only two chapters in, I am loving it this far. The flashbacks in the first chapter are sweet, the instant reignition of chemistry between the two characters is cute, as much as their interactions are bittersweet. More bitter for Fannie, who remembers David as the man she wanted to be courted by and eventually marry. And more sweet for David, who is getting to know her and falling in love all over again.

I've been reading a story per night to my kids at bedtime. These are the perfect length for their ages - not too short as to be unsatisfactory; not too long as to cause boredom. The art on each page keeps them interested. It's nice for me too, as this is one of the books I've kept from my youth. I got this book in my pre-teens as I was getting very interested in the classics, especially those from Europe.

Currently reading a chapter every other night or so to the kids.

Only three chapters in, I already have theories. I think several hints have been laid already, and, SPOILER WARNING in case I am correct, but I think we're going to learn much later in the story that Bryn is half-fae or something. Therefore, she'd be human enough to prevent the weakness-and-eventual-death thing, and Fae enough that she would be accepted as the fae queen and their children would be accepted as heirs.

Strong Country Club vibes from the very first paragraph of the prologue. I'm intrigued. It'll definitely be a Scooby-Doo style mystery, where the killer has something to gain from getting rid of people, or just someone in general. We'll see. I am eager!

Reading with my kids. We're skipping around the stories and have so far read Cinderella and Rapunzel, each being about 7 pages, thus we've read 14 pages, even if not following the stories as laid out in the book.

So far, I have been in equal measure grateful for and frustrated by this book. I cannot get too detailed yet here, as I have yet to finish the book. However, know that I have been ranting and raving in our book club meetings, however infrequent they may be, about each and every love and ire I feel for this book.
