Mark Rice is 20% done with Metallica and Philosophy: A Crash Course in Brain Surgery (The Blackwell Philosophy and Pop Culture Series)
Enjoying this, although not as much as I enjoyed Black Sabbath and Philosophy: Mastering Reality. The latter was an inspired mix of philosophy, lateral thinking and humour, all underpinned by the morals and lyrical themes of the band that started it all (metal, that is), Black Sabbath. A joy to read. The Metallica version feels less organic. A wee bit contrived. And overly flattering rather than objective.

This is the sixth novel by Jim Fusilli, rock & pop music critic for The Wall Street Journal. The tight plot is driven forward by simple prose and realistic dialogue. Plus, the author's named after pasta, so he should be the perfect guy to write an Italian-American Mafia-themed thriller...

Not to be confused with Raymond E.Feist's excellent Faerie Tale (which I've read more than once), this is a non-fiction account of Signe Pike's worldwide travels in search of the fabled 'little people'.
