Wow, I can just imagine what would happen if I told a customer they couldn't keep the one person asking hard questions on the call

Note to self: If a job ever has you so stressed that you switch to a liquid diet and literally never leave the office the time has come to quit. Especially if you have no dependents and fairly good job prospects elsewhere....

Finally getting into this book. I got a little bored with book 1, but book 2 was good

Old Mrs Bovary's priorities are kind of surprising. I would have thought that future grandchildren would be somewhere on her priority list (not to mention he son being happy), but it seems like for her it's all about her son being wealthy.

How on earth to men keep marrying Hallgerðr? She killed her first husband and causes problems everywhere she goes

Well after reading one chapter online to skip a pretty incomprehensible narrator I made it to part two! But after and extensive back story we seem to have abandoned Chichikov. Maybe he'll stop by after Tientietnikov's even more extensive backstory

A whole lot of victim-blaming from Aunt Western...

And here I was hoping that Tom would do something useful to "make his fortune" once he got to London...

I mean if the ocean can make copies of the instruments they dipped in it why didn't they realize it could copy the person who fell in it?

The previous sections could have been titled "A comedy of errors occurring in various Inns"

This book is quite a bit more lively and the characters more promiscuous than Victorian books I've read. I wonder if those sort of thing were more talked about in the earlier time period.

All the characters (with the exception of Sophia and Alworthy) are really a bunch of vagabonds

First person to check this out from the library, pretty excited to read it.

Also loved the section on Kindness. I've always felt that "nice" was overused and didn't mean much, whereas kindness was much more valuable. Interesting discussion of the root of the word
