Wow. I’m about 60% through this book and I can honestly say I cannot remember a time when I hated a character as much as I hate Persephone. What a spoiled brat. She is constantly throwing tantrums. She is constantly apologizing and making the same bad choices. I’m going to finish this book only bc I don’t have another audiobook lined up and in hopes she gets put in her place.

This book so warmly and wonderfully handled such delicate topics. This has been my favorite so far. We’ve been listening to the series on road trips and the entire family loves the Vanderbeekers, the Brownstone and all the local Harlem neighbors, animals included.

4.5. Slow to start bc the world building is overwhelming and I wasn’t invested in the story until about 200 pages in. Once I was in, I was hooked. SO MANY great characters. I loved the females in this book.

This book was not at all what I thought it was going to be. The title and the cover made me think it was going to be a silly, fluffy romance.

After the smooth cadence and rich tone of the female narrator, the male narrator feels a bit grating and jarring. I’m hoping his narration smooths out as I suspect the character’s personality will in the book.

I really felt the connection with her sister and the love they share. I have mixed feelings about the romantic love story.

I’m 118 pages in and wondering why Nina, who I loved in the last book, seems like such a B right now. 🤣
