her husband is… a character to say the least

slow start but it’s getting interesting now!!

finally picking this up again! i just need to get through the school years they’re boring me so bad 😭

““I’m Elizabeth Zott,” she said calmly, withdrawing a freshly sharpened fourteen-inch chef’s knife. But he wasn’t sure he’d heard. He’d already fainted dead anyway.”

omgg what an absolute powerhouse of a woman!!!

“and one who went along because she, like so many other women, assumed that downgrading someone of her own sex would somehow lift her in the estimation of her male superiors.”

“Elizabeth Zott held grudges too. Except her grudges were mainly reserved for a patriarchal society founded on the idea that women were less. Less capable. Less intelligent. Less inventive. A society that believed men went to work and did important things…She didn’t want children but also knew that other women did want children and a career. And what was wrong with that? Nothing. It was exactly what men got.”

is this book actually worth it or am i just gonna be reading about some guy drinking and sleeping his way through rome?

“It’s not like she’s trying to recruit me. One little prayer isn’t going to ruin my life”

famous last words lmao

“Unusual cruelty is your specialty, she had said once, her tone accusatory and full of spite. And maybe she was right, but one thing Arin knew: He would never have done this to her. He would never have let her step toward this precipice with a lie wrapped around her neck. He would never have watched her willingly drop herself over the edge.”

aaaahhhhhhh

i’m sooo read for this!!

“The other champions may not be a sensitive to insults your virtue.”
“This is the fourth time you’ve mentioned my virtue. Perhaps preoccupy yourself with another matter.”

LMAOOO but i need Sylvia to stab him a few times before we getting to enemies to lovers-ing part

“to every eldest daughter who chooses to be brave”

i’m soo locked in and excited for thissss

almost at the end!! omg i’m scared bc i already know this isn’t going to end well

…i did not expect to learn this in depth about the sexual behaviour of spiders

‼️‼️SPOILERS‼️‼️

omg so ramy and victoire are working with hermes?? why did i not consider that others might be working for them?? and ofc anthony isn’t dead but will lovell expel robin now or make him play the double hero??

“that the generosity of the university should not demand his constant, unswerving loyalty to the Crown and it’s colonial projects” — damn straight

“If only one could engrave entire memories in silver, thought Robin, to be manifested again and again for years to come – not the cruel distortion of the daguerreotype, but a pure and impossible distillation of emotions and sensations. For simple ink on paper was not enough to describe this golden afternoon; the warmth of uncomplicated friendship, all fights forgotten”

never related to anything more

“You have such a great fear of freedom, brother. It's shackling you. You've identified so hard with the colonizer, you think any threat to them is a threat to you. When are you going to realize you can't be one of them?”

i called it about griffin!!!

guys the racism is already making me upset and this is ch1 ….

“Perhaps Roscille should drink from it as well. Her plan, once merely callous, now made blasphemous, vulgar, truly evil, sanctified by these unholiest of creatures.
Macbeth turns to her, his face gleaming in the torchlight.
“You see,” he says. “My lust for blood will be rewarded. We leave for Cawder at dawn.”

girlie just didn’t want to sleep with him and now he’s planning a full scale war…

“it sounds like the sort of curse a witch would give: the shiny apple with the rotted core. Your daughter will be the most beautiful maiden, Lord Varvek, but one look into her eyes will drive mortal men to madness. Roscille understands that this explanation offers her better prospects than the alternative. Better to be witch-cursed than witch; better hagseed than hag.”

okay this is getting a little flat now (like idcccc that you’re fucking can we move on with the plot pls???)

‼️!!!!SPOILER!!!‼️

what is it with book characters and wanting to tear each others clothes off after they narrowly escape a murder attempt???

forcing myself to put this down bc it’s 1:30 in the morning and i need to get at least 6 hrs of sleep 😭😛

“I note all this because I think male writers are often mocked for their lengthy descriptions of women’s breasts, but I do think some breasts provoke them, even from me.”

ew what are we?? men?? get it together girl

i’m soo invested in this already (it’s currently 5am and i have query tomorrow 😭😭)

haven’t had time to read much but this has had a banger of a start so far!!

excited for this!!
