I don’t remember how I got this book, probably picked it up from book swap library without looking.

The subject isn’t something I would go for directly, yet think it could be interesting. The problem is that this book isn’t very well written till this point.

Off to a good start

Leest lekker vlot

This was very long and kinda pointless imho. It takes a lot of momentum out of the story, which wasn’t all that fast paced to begin with

Ok so now the Wynand character is being developed and he will seemingly get an important part. It’s a bit on the slow side for me, this still feels more like a shortish fable.

These people are nuts

I’m now hundreds of pages in and these characters are still pretty one-dimensional.

The story so far is somewhat of a dark fair tale, in that it is heavily stereotypical and seems to be working around an idea/moral and no so much a realistic story.

Nog steeds wat teveel informatie over familie die en die, en kerktorentje zus-en-zo, het zal passend zijn bij de beschreven gemeenschappen maar ik kan mijn aandacht er niet bijhouden.

Ik heb het even zwaar met dat constante uitweiden. Het is een beetje alsof je opa een oorlogsverhaal aan het vertellen is, dan moet plassen, en dat dan je tante het overneemt die 120 bladzijdes lang gaat uitweiden over zus en zo.

Niet ontzettend overtuigend

Het is tot nu toe leuk om te lezen. Ik vind het idee heel aardig en interactie met de verteller zit best goed in elkaar. Waar ik me nu een beetje aan begin te storen is de neiging van de verteller om veel motivaties toe te lichten. Ik snap dat dat hoort bij de stijlfiguur, maar voor mijn smaak zou het minder mogen. Laten we eens kijken wat er komt...

Refreshing perspective

I'm not sure how I feel: It's dull, none of the characters are interesting, the endless reports on luxury goods are annoying... yet I'm still reading it. The book does somehow pull you in, and get's in your head.

Best leuke ideeen en grondige uitleg totnutoe. De stijl waarin de auteur af en toe reflecteert op haar jeugd werkt nog niet helemaal voor mij.
