Just finished chapter 31. Lots of tears, but happy ones.

People think it’s bad if someone makes you feel small, but it really isn’t.

our teenage years have to simultaneously be the brightest light and the darkest depths, because that’s how we learn to figure out our horizons.

Adults always think they can protect children by stopping them from going to dangerous places, but every teenager knows that’s pointless, because the most dangerous place on earth is inside us.

Sometimes, the roads we don’t know we’re walking are the ones that lead us to exactly where we’re meant to be.

Now they do everything themselves just like she always wanted when they were little and annoying, and now she wants to have it all back again because now they’re big and independent.

She is tugging at my heart so hard. I am feeling all the things that Lillie is feeling as her son goes off to college. I remember it so well from last fall. My heart is breaking!

She didn’t understand why they [men] couldn’t just treat her as a fellow human being, as a colleague, a friend, an equal, or even a stranger on the street, someone to whom one is automatically respectful until you find out they’ve buried a bunch of bodies in the backyard.

Already crying. The book is going to gut me, I can tell.

It’s really, truly loving - with the kind of love you couldn’t take away even if you wanted to - that turns you inside out.

Because we’re doing the best we can, we am really are. We’re trying to be grown up and love each other and understand how the hell you’re supposed to insert USB leads. We’re looking for something to cling to, something to fight for, something to look forward to.

We plant an apple tree today, even if we know the world is going to be destroyed tomorrow.

We save those we can.

We need to be allowed to convince ourselves that we’re more than the mistakes we made yesterday. That we are all of our next choices, too, all of our tomorrows.

This book is so sweet and it’s making me cry!

Travel is a fantastic self-development tool, because it extricates you from the values of your culture ... this exposure then forces you to examine what seems obvious in your own life and to consider that perhaps it’s not necessarily the best way to live.

Grabbed me from page 1. There is definitely a story behind both Joy and Dylan. Can’t wait to see what it is.
