Holy crap! I'm sucked into this one folks! I hope it holds up!

I love books that have lots of STORY, so I worried this would be a slog, but I am in the hands of a master here. The prose is exceptional. The prose IS the story. I am surprised how I can read this on the subway and get completely sucked into this world.

Also, it's inspiring me to step up my prose game. Thank you, Shirley Hazzard!

I won't lie. I like want to make out with David Mitchell so bad.

I am loving Turn of the Screw so much I decided to read the rest of the short works in this volume once I am done. I happen to find his prose stupendous. Those sentences are like Escher drawings.

I don't know if it's me or the book, but finally past the 1/2 way point and it's TAKEN OFF into what I was hoping this would be--a mashup of Harry Potter/Neil Gaiman romps. I cannot put it down now! Hallelu!

I hope first impressions are correct here because I am already smitten!

Finally have the balls and the maturity to read this book.

I'm sort of susprised that having both seen the TV version AND read the book as a kid, I have fogotten most of this, particularly the grisly gay bashing that happens early on. The gay characters are a bit much but King handled the emotional trauma of gay bashing and homophobia rather well for a book written in the 80s. And so far I find this much better than The Stand.

This is feeling like a slog for some reason. I don't get it. Japan, Buddhism, Proust . . . I should be eating this up!

Boy this book is really bad . . . I'm starting to get furious with it.

God, this book is depressing me. It's amazing how awful people were about AIDS and gay people in the mid-80s . . . and also as a gay creative uncle with two nieces this is making me really weepy.

I can't put this down. It's so fucking good. And the fact that identify with the protagonist despite her actions is a testament to Faber's genius.

I hear there's a movie in the works. Benedict Cumberbatch or Michael Fassbender need to play the lead. Because I say so.

The first couple pages have killed me with the prose.

Ugh, I hate the title of this book, but I read through it when I was younger and I want to read up on Taoist/chi stuff . . . particularly around the connection between sexuality and creativity.

Time to reread!
