Double update because the scene where she considers coming out to her parents and then internally monologues an entire paragraph about "But unfortunately Reagan and the Moral Majority" absolutely pissed me off lol. Gonna start responding to emails "I would love to do this but unfortunately the historical context of the moment prevents me" and then send them a link to an Atlantic article about current events

Chapter 4 details an (extremely long) speech from a confederate not to platform their bullshit but to meitculously point out the lie of "states' rights" as a reason for the Civil War. Rhodes makes it clear white supremacy was at the core of the confederate cause and that white supremacy was rooted in the desire pathetic people to feel better and more important than someone else. Not much has changed there.
